How are we different?
Our program is small and our goal is to keep it that way! How does that set us apart from other breeding programs? We believe that by having fewer litters, we are able to be more involved with each litter which enables us to give each puppy the very best start to life that we possibly can!
Genetic Health Testing & Puppy Culture
We genetic health test all of our adult dogs before breeding. Genetic health testing provides the information we need to be able to produce healthy puppies. We breed to better the lines and to only produce high quality pups! We also raise our pups using Puppy Culture. Puppy Culture is a socialization and training program specifically developed for puppies, from birth through the end of their critical socialization period.
Introduction To Crate Training & Potty Training
While the pups are with us, we begin crate training. We start this around 6 weeks. We start with very short periods and gradually add time as pups progress. We believe it is vital to introduce pups to the crate at a young age and for them to think of the crate as their "safe space". We want them to feel comfortable in the crate and to not feel as though they are being punished.
Starting at 3 weeks, we add a designated potty section to the pups area. We use artificial turf. With time we continue to expand the space between their sleep section and their potty section. This teaches the pups from an early age where they are expected to potty. Not only does this help keep their area clean and sanitary but it gives them a jump start to potty training.
It is very important to note that even though we work on these two things while the pups are with us, 8 week old pups will NOT be fully crate or potty trained when they go to their new homes. These two things take much more time and work in order for pups to master. We do believe though that the work we put in with the pups while they are with us gives them a head start.
